- Paris and Latin American art -
Right from the onset, Kinetic Art was at the centre Galerie Mark Hachem’s focus and over the following three decades, the gallery collaborated with many prestigious artists. For Art Wynwood 2020 Mark Hachem is proud to present artists from the Op Art movement as well as major creations from the Latino American art sphere.
Early on in the 20th century, Paris became a haven for artists from all over the globe, hosting generations of painters and sculptors struggling for success and recognition by the tough Parisian public. South American artists, often pushed into exile to the city of lights by strife and their countries’ authoritarian regimes, contributed to making Paris the capital of Latin American art for over 50 years.
(cf: “untitled” by Chilean artist Roberto Matta, depicting General Pinochet’s 1973 military coup)
At Art Wynwood, Galerie Mark Hachem showcases pieces by Roberto Matta and Wifredo Lam, highlighting how they were influenced by the cubist and French surrealist movements.
Kinetic Art is also in the spotlight at the Mark Hachem booth. Latino American artists were central to the creation of the movement and it helped establish and then cement their integration into the French art scene, Kinetism being the only artistic trend in the 20Th century that successfully challenged the European centric art landscape.
At Art Wynwood, Galerie Mark Hachem celebrates the work of the Venezuelan masters and main players in the Kinetic Art field, Jesus Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz Diez, Dario Perez Flores, René Ugarte, Francisco (Pancho) Salazar, Rafael Pérez et Rafael Barrios.
Also, on show, works by Fernand Léger, who taught Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral, as well as sculptures by Hussein Madi and Philippe Hiquily.

Nedim Kufi.
"Edens"
Mark Hachem presents “Edens”, a solo exhibition by artist Nedim Kufi, featuring a selection of his most recent works.
Nedim Kufi’s work often compares Middle Eastern and European culture through images and thoughts vested in ambiguity and paradox. Kufi seeks gaps internationally within rationality, similarity and contradiction. A strong believer in minimalism, Kufi hopes to influence the audience’s perception through repetition and overlapping structures. He aims at reminding the viewers of their identities, cognition and social experiences.

ART PARIS
April 5th - April 8th
Location : Grand Palais, Paris - BOOTH B1
The Galerie Mark Hachem is celebrating Art Paris’ 20th anniversary with a double presentation of an exceptional quality. A major part of the space is dedicated to unique and historical pieces by the masters of kinetic art : Soto, Cruz Diez, Perez Flores shown in tandem with rare sculptures by Di Teana and Hiquily. Also on show is Stephen Peirce’s latest work. With his usual breath-taking technique, the British artist adds a new chapter to a body of work that knows no precedent. The still life becomes animated with unfeasible colour harmonies and seems to breathe a new, hyperrealistic, breath. A transformation that is a sensual overload, definitely disturbing and certainly mind blowing.
When the inanimate suddenly stirs and makes you jump with a start. ______________________________________

ZONA MACO
7-11 February, 2018
Location : Centro Citibanamex, Hall D AV. Conscripto 311 Lomas de Sotelo CDMX, 11200
On the occasion of ZONA MACO 2018, Galerie Mark Hachem will be presenting a collective exhibition of established and celebrated artists. All artists share an interest in exploring the field of perception, experimenting with colors, lines, movement and materials, to convey peculiar visual effects. They all belong to the Kinetic and Op Art movements, or are inspired by them. Their works of art establish a connection with the surrounding space in a dynamic relationship, also initiating a dialogue with the viewer, who is captured by their hypnotic magnetism. The interest in Kinetic and Op Art is in fact a distinctive trait of Galerie Mark Hachem, as a leading contemporary art gallery.
Despite all artists have an individual and unique voice, we can identify a common thread that unifies their works. Soto, Cruz-Diez and Perez Flores share a similar aesthetic, derived from their participation to the Op Art and Kinetic movements. They all focus their attention on shapes, colors and lines, however stressing various aspects of perception: sometimes linked to movement, at other times stressing the relationship of the artwork with space and time, or even simply presenting a scientific approach to the viewer’s perception of the visual effects conveyed by the artwork.
Di Teana's "architectural sculptures" and the chromatic vibrations of Asis, Perez-Flores, Cruz Diez and Soto’s are among the greatest examples of an artist's life: an intuition that becomes continuous, unique research, and whose plastic responses overwhelm our sensitivity without any limit of time.
All the artists the gallery will be representing are widely recognized, as their works appear in several public and private collections. However, they all have remained faithful to their artistic inspiration and expression.
