The flower motif dominates Zhuang Hong Yi’s work – a significant image in Chinese culture bearing equally strong associations with the Netherlands, world famous for its flowers – and he works patiently and religiously on this subject year-after-year, intricately crafting his works with care and forethought. Zhuang’s well known and highly collected ‘flower bed’ works are crafted from delicate pieces of painted rice paper, which he has bent and folded into hundreds of tiny buds creating seductive, tactile works.

In this latest collection, Zhuang has developed his technique from working with a single uniform color to creating dual and triple colored works that subtly shift from one dominant color to another as you move your body and eyes from one side of the work to the other, adding movement and a visual tactility to the works. Utilizing the traditional Chinese material of rice paper, the works represent Chinese aesthetics, meditations on color, nature and form.The emphasis on technique and uniformity and the focus on his handling of material are all lessons adopted from the Sichuan College of Fine Arts where he first studied.

Zhuang Hong Yi is based in the Netherlands but was brought up in China.  It is this combination of Chinese background and European influence that marks Zhuang Hong Yi’s work.  Embracing his present without losing his past, he attempts to define a sense of self that exists between the two.  Zhuang enacts this personal struggle visually, vacillating between phases of controlled planning, emotional gesture and careful editing, creating works that represent beauty, sophisitication and a perfection.

Zhuang Hong Yi has exhibited throughout Europe and China and his work is held in numerous esteemed public and private collections worldwide and has been the subject of multiple museum exhibitions at Groniger Museum in the Netherlands.

La fleur, un symbole chargé de significat et émotions dans la tradition chinoise et un élément aussi important dans la culture néerlandaise, est un motif dominant dans le travail de Hong Yi. Depuis des années, il travail avec patience et rigueur sur ce sujet dans la tradition chinoise, confectionnant ses sujet d’une façon élaborée et minutieuse. Il réalise ses célèbres ‘Flower beds’ utilisant morceau délicats de papier de riz, qu’il plie et courbe dans des centaines de bourgeons, créant des œuvres séduisantes et tactiles.

Dans sa série plus récente, il a développé une nouvelle technique, passant de l’emploi d’une seule couleur uniforme à la création d’œuvres multicolores, qui change subtilement d’une couleur dominante à une autre suivant le mouvement des yeux et du corps du spectateur, ce qui donne un sens de mouvement et tactilité visuelle. Utilisant le papier de riz, un matériel de la tradition chinoise, ses œuvres représentent l’esthétique chinoise et une méditation sur la couleur, la nature et la forme, mettant l’accent sur une techinque uniforme et une maitrise du matériel, qualités acquises pendant sa formation aux Sichuan College of Fine Arts.   

Zhuang Hong Yi est un artiste contemporain basé dans les Pays-Bas mais qui a grandi en Chine. Cette combinaison entre tradition chinoise et influence européenne caractérise son œuvre. Il saisie le présent sans oublier le passé, essayant de définir un ses d’ « être » qui se situe dans les deux.

Zhuang représente sa lutte intérieure de façon visuelle, oscillant entre le préparation minutieuse et émotion, créant des œuvres qui incarnent beauté, sophistication et perfection.

Zhuang Hong Yi a exposé en Europe et en Chine, et ses œuvres paraissent dans plusieurs célèbres collections publiques et privées dans les quatre coins du monde. Il à participé à plusieurs expositions dans le Groniger Museum, aux Pays-Bas.
